All Things Strings

Do any of "Strings'" readers use an amplifier for your Violin/Fiddle or other stringed instrument? Or do you want to? I'm doing a survey to see what the needs are for Strings readers. Would love to hear your reply. Thank you.

You would not believe how great UltraSound would make your violin. Go to and see what the young fella that plays with a lot of big names in Nashville has to say about his experience with UltraSound. He is playing them now!!!!

Dean, what do you think about your Ultra Sound for solid body electrics violins like the Wood Viper?

Hi - I thought i would throw my 2 cents in here. I have played through many, many amps over the years. In a nutshell, I like the sound of bass amps. I have never found a guitar amp that sounds really good with a violin. Lots of folks like the "acoustic" guitar amps, but, I am really not sold. I have had good luck with keyboard amps, too. Bottom line: try amps that are not contoured for a particular sound. Guitar amps are just to mid rangy. A small bass amp is usually a winner in my book. I really like Hartke and Kustom.

I'm using the Schertler Dyn-V with the Schertler Amp. It gets me a clear clean sound but you have acquire a skill to apply with the right amount of pressure. The sound is big enough for large parties, restaurants, festivals weddings. The pickup (body mic in this case) falls short of best microphones I've tried. But even the mic responsed change with respect to the room. In general, I am very pleased with flexibility of motion on stage. I don't like their cable attachment method. I've been sticking on the shoulder pad struts. But I'm not entirely satisfied with that either.

Great. I am wondering if a lot of the Strings Magazine readers use amplifiers. I own UltraSound Amplifier Company and we make some fantastic amps. Looking for good vehicles to get to players who need amps. Check us out. UltraSound is one of the very best amps made, for natural, transparent reproduction. The Violin shop in Nashville just took our line on after they played a couple models. They said it is the best amp going for Violin/Fiddle.

I use a Roland AC-60 amp for my violin, when I mic it. I like the natural sound it produces, and the simple, but effective effects it provides like reverb and chours.
