It's time to bring classical music into the 21st century. And it's up to us. The biggest problem with classical music as I see it is that it moves glacially. It takes so long for composers to be recognized and for trends to take root. We are only no…

Anyone looking for world fusion/classical music?

I am a composer focusing on world fusion/classical music and am busy writing a series of world fusion string quartets - that is, string quartets with the addition of a couple of unusual instruments. My first piece in this series, "Sky Mirror" won the Shakuhachi Chamber Music International Prize 2008. It was written for string quartet, shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and electric guitar with effects. My second which is almost completed is called "Welcome Santo" and is African influenced. It features string quartet with the addition of kalimba and shekere (large gourd rattle).

If you are part of a string quartet and are interested in considering my work please contact me. You can hear the second movement of "Sky Mirror" on my website at the top of the music page www.derrikjordan.com. Thanks! -Derrik Jordan
