A great fiddler that i'm sure many have heard of is Darol Anger. He plays every year at a festival called "Northwest String Summit." It's hosted just west of Portland at a private ranch, Horning's Hideout. The festival is put on by Yonder Mountain String Band, and has an array of bluegrass musicians and bands for 4 days and 3 nights! Its fantastic and a great opportunity to (1) listen to wonderful fiddler's, guitarists, banjo players, mandolin players, bass and the life, and (2) you can play in the camp ground after the show, as there are many other musicians that come to listen and play. Short notice, but it is this weekend, 16th-19th. Check it out if you can!!

In April I went to a Master Class at the Irish and Arts Center in New York and I have to put that down as being a load of fun as well as learning a great deal.

I had a great time at Mark O'Connor's new fiddle camp in New York City. Great classes and jams. Getting to play some with Darol Anger and Mike Block. Best of all was being awarded one of the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violins.

Hi Jonathan,

Congratulations on receiving one of the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violins! I was lucky enough to attend the faculty recital of Mark O'Connor's NYC fiddle camp -- what a great night of music! I am very much looking forward to the impending publication of Mark's sequenced fiddle book series.

We attended Jana Jae's Fiddle Fest in June (official name: Grand Lakes National Fiddle Fest). It is held in Grove, Oklahoma and is worth coming back for year after year. This was our 10th in a row! Jana starred on Hee Haw with Buck Owens and Roy Clark. She is so gracious and approachable. She really knows how to throw a festival!

Right after that we went to the National Old-Time Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho. Joey and Sherry McKenzie sure do know how to train girl fiddlers. You know the Quebe Sisters, right? Well, another of the McKenzie's proteges, Mia Orosco, won the Jr division out of 70 contestants. She's superb!

The Oklahoma State Picking & Fiddling Championships come up in Tulsa on Oct. 9, a week after the Grand Masters. Check it out at www.OKFiddleContest.com.

I love the Quebe Sisters. These festivals sound like a real blast! I'm going to post a link to Jana's website in hopes that folks will check out her events

Good. Jana has a camp in Idaho in August, followed by her Oklahoma fiddle camp over Labor Day. And by the way, 9-year-old Regina Scott of Tulsa was the Small Fry division champion in Weiser!
